Another job option for physician

hi,

There is another good option for physicians looking for a job and that is the option to work as a locum tenen.

The term combines the Latin words locum (place) and tenens (holding), and loosely translated means “holding a place.” A locum tenens physician, therefore, is one who works in various locations for limited periods.

A locum tenens position offers newly minted physicians the opportunity to travel, to continue learning in established practices, and to pick up practice management tips from more experienced physicians.

I personally think that it is actually a good idea for somebody who really is hardocre traveller. Let me know your views.

My first Interview

hi folks,

Finally I am going for my first interview for Hospitalist job next week. After activating my resume on net I got tremendous response but my schedule was very tight so I decided to postpone the interview and now finally I am going.....Looks like I have to decide weather I need to join or not...that means it is a beautiful job market out there.

and that is good news for all the folks out there in Internal Medicine.

I will post my experience here about my first job interview.

good luck,

Sid

Hospitalist

Now a days lots of physician decide to pursue fellowship, but fellowship is a commitment for atleast 2 to 3 years. After spending 3 to 4 years in exhaustive residency it is really taxing to jump into fellowship immediately.

Lots of residents decide to take a break inbetween and try to rejuvenate, make some money in jobs and do something in the spare time which they always wanted to do but could not find time during busy residency.

For me, I have lots of goals for this one year.

1. Traveling
2. I love programming so I am planning to spend some time
3. Research about best softwares for my pocket pc
4. Spending quality time with family
5. Real life independent experience of patient care and treatment
whew.............................too many goals

How to achieve that.

I researched options and I think to work as a Hospitalist is the best case scenario, I would not loose my edge, will not be lazy and still making some decent money as Hospitalist.

I know it will be hectic when I am on duty but then once I am done I am free to pursue what I like most.

What am I doing?

For the curious out there, I am in my final year of Internal Medicine residency program. I am IMG/FMG whatever you call it. Basically, I love Medicine, Computer and lots of other things.

Currently I am preparing for my board exams and before that I have to pass step 3 and I found out that I have to appear for step 2 CS previously known as CSA, so now in this limited amount of time I am reading like never before and I think I am doing pretty ok.

What am I reading.

USMLE world for CSA (step 2 CS)
MKSAP - for board review
registered for Satis Dalla's unique review course
I also review MEDSTUDY DVDs along with companion books

I guess that is enough for today. Btw, I am in wonderful rotation now so I get lots of time not only to read but also for blogging.

I happened to find some good sites which discuss physician salary. I think it is a good idea to see what is the current trend as far as compensation package in different field. After looking at it carefully it seems that for doctors it is easier to settle down anywhere in USA and have a decent lifestyle.

You can visit following sites for information on physician salary
